About this Training Course

The technical role of the operations geologist is critical to the successful and safe drilling of a well. A clear understanding of the subsurface data in the planning and execution of the well is vital and is the main focus of this course. A large amount of geological data is acquired at a substantial cost when carrying out a drilling operation. Well location and design input will require inputs from the operations geologist to avoid drilling hazards, plan casing points and data acquisition strategy. Ensuring safe and quality acquisition of this information, correct interpretation and effective communication is a key part of the operation geologist’s role during drilling operations. The close co-operation between geological, drilling and well engineering departments ensures optimal and safe drilling of the well. This 4-day course aims to provide the participants with the foundational knowledge to be effective as an operations geologist. The course will comprise lectures interspersed with practical and interactive exercises as well as quizzes to promote better understanding for the participants.
