About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) 

The HAZOP Team Leader Training is an intensely participative Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) that will develop participants already familiar with the HAZOP technique, the skills, knowledge and attributes of a HAZOP Team Leader.

An in-depth syndicate exercise will provide the opportunity to lead a HAZOP team (consisting of other participants) and to be observed performing the role for constructive feedback.

This course has been reviewed and approved by the Institution of Chemical Engineers. IChemE is the global professional membership organisation for chemical, biochemical and process engineers and other professionals involved in the chemical, process and bioprocess industries. Their knowledge of professional standards, close involvement with industry, education and regulators, and their expertise as a leading global training provider, means they are uniquely positioned to independently assess and approve training courses and professional development programmes across the world.

This VILT includes lectures supported by practical exercises and a syndicate exercise in which all participants have the opportunity to undertake various roles including Team Leader and recorded in a realistic HAZOP setting. The Instructor will provide guidance when required, observe each team and encourage a two-way feedback to enable participants to identify areas for self-improvement.

Your expert course leader has 20 years of experience in chemical process design and project engineering, followed by 10 years in offshore safety design management and 15 years running safety engineering consultancies in the Oil & Gas industry. He has gained experience at a senior level in process design, operations, safety and environmental engineering, and risk management and has managed the efficient implementation of capital projects.

He is a Fellow of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers; he served on the Scottish Branch committee, and was elected chairman for a two-year term in 1991. He has also been a committee member of the Safety and Reliability Society and has served as chairman for the North of Scotland Branch. He has delivered in-house courses for Shell International and public courses in HAZOP Study for Team Leaders, and for Engineers and HAZOP Awareness for Managers. He has lectured Failure Mode and Effect Analysis to the M.Sc. course in Process Safety and Loss Prevention at Sheffield University.
